Summer Sundae uses tixmob’s messaging facility after “exceptional” on the door performance

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Festival-goers at the Summer Sundae Weekender festival in Leicester this August enjoyed problem-free entry to the event thanks to the tout-beating, mobile phone-based ticketing system provided by tixmob.

The independent festival, headlined by Macy Gray, Supergrass and the Coral, has pioneered the use of mobile tickets, demonstrating that music fans are happy to use the new technology for event entry in place of the traditional paper ticket. The system, which was adopted by the festival for its ability to outwit the touts, has lived up to the expectations of the organisers.

“Our primary objective was to cut out touting and the tixmob system worked exceptionally well,” says Summer Sundae’s Festival Director Richard Haswell. “The event went very smoothly on the door.”

tixmob’s system allows customers to purchase their ticket online and receive a texted barcode on their mobile, with the alternative option of receiving an email for home printing if they prefer. About 5,000 of the 6,000 festival-goers at the popular event used their mobile phones or printed barcodes to gain access to the festival.

In addition, Summer Sundae organisers benefitted from another feature of the system, which allows an event to build up a database of existing customers. Richard’s team used this effectively to communicate to fans after the event by sending them a ‘thank you’ message. This had the effect of cementing their loyalty and successfully encouraging them to buy tickets for next year. Indeed, ticket sales to Summer Sundae Weekender 2009 have already got off to a flying start.

“We have comprehensive, highly targeted electronic database of our customers,” says Richard. “It’s an instant way of communicating with a focused group of people, which has got to be good.” The Summer Sundae experience is a demonstration of how festival organisers can use the tixmob system to communicate effectively with their ticket-buyers and build brand loyalty.

We are delighted that Summer Sundae was happy with the system’s overall performance, particularly in stamping out touting and forgeries at the event,” says tixmob’s Managing Director Ariya Priyasantha. “We will continue to work closely with the organisers, operations staff and consumers to improve our system further.”

tixmob to demonstrate ticketing innovations at Showman’s Show 2008

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

tixmob will be returning to the Showman’s Show this year, with a demonstration of how event organisers can use ‘social ticketing’ and last minute mobile ticketing to increase visitor figures at your events!

As well as experiencing how tixmob’s range of ticketing and marketing solutions work for the punter, event organisers will be able to see how the new phenomenon ‘social ticketing’ can work to increase event attendance numbers.

Jacob Crawford of tixmob explained, “This year at the show we will be demonstrating the power of ‘social ticketing’ – an idea which is designed to encourage groups of friends to buy tickets together.”

When the group initiator buys a ticket they are given an exclusive code which they can pass to friends to use when they buy tickets. If a pre-agreed number of tickets are then bought with that exclusive code, the original purchaser gets their ticket free or another promotional item.”

Jacob continued, “This is the perfect tool for event organisers to give something back to the opinion formers who initiate an event attendance and to build a loyal customer base of proactive event goers with powerful marketing.”

This summer, working will Summer Sundae, tixmob sold £14,400 worth of tickets on the days of the event, made possible through the company’s immediate ticket delivery system which enables tickets to be sold up until the last minute before the event.

Visitors to the stand can experience the tixmob system first hand on the stand. Visitors will simply give their phone number to tixmob, who will then reply with a barcode, which will then be scanned by the team on the stand for a chance to win an excusive tixmob prize!

tixmob has the winning ticket

tixmob worked with Jersey Telecom to create a hugely popular Festival give away with a difference at Jersey Live 2008!

Festival goers won essential festival goodies including beer, food and state of the art mobile handsets through promotional vouchers sent to their phone at the festival, which takes place annually in Jersey, and this year featured The Zutons and Prodigy in the line up.

Festival goers were invited by posters and credit card sized flyers handed out at the festival to text “JSYLIVE” to the short code 88600 for the chance to win prizes courtesy of Jersey Telecom. Participants received an eight digit mobile voucher from tixmob directly to their phone which they presented at a Jersey Telecom kiosk where it was electronically redeemed to collect their prize. Approximately 3000 people took part in the promotion, which meant a whopping participation rate of over 30% across the weekend.

The promotion was designed to position Jersey Telecom via the Jersey live brand as the telecommunications company of choice. Jersey Telecom is now able to use the data captured from the promotion to target potential customers for other JT related offers.

Ariya Priyasantha, Managing Director of tixmob explained: “The reason the competition was so appealing to consumers was because everyone who entered won one of the prizes. These included free food and drink tokens, and a range of Jersey Telecom freebies including top of the range handsets. Our tixmob platform uniquely controlled the distribution of these prizes so that customer, Jersey Telecom, could always monitor and control the number of free gifts given out depending on consumption and cap their expenditure, unlike traditional promotions.”

tixmob worked closely with Jersey Telecom to develop a tailored solution, drawing on their knowledge of previous campaigns to gain the maximum uptake from the crowds. The company’s understanding of the sophistication of mobile users and how they were likely to be equipped to deal with the technology was perfect for the festival environment.

Dave Vieira, Head of Marketing at Jersey Telecom said: “This was the first time mobile ticketing has been used in the Island and its great success means that we will be looking to work with tixmob at future JT events. In the long term, mobile ticketing is likely to become popular across the world and we are proud that Jersey Telecom is amongst the earliest companies to adopt this technology. The technology has enhanced customer perception that we are at the forefront of mobile technology.”
